It's that time of year again, when big corporations mooch off of love-sick couples buying copious amounts of milk chocolate and roses for their loved ones. Valentine's Day. Personally, I'm tired of seeing couples go on the same boring dates! As an avid people watcher, I want some action in my observing! I want to see couples go on actually interesting dates! I've compiled some of my ideas in this article, making sure to put a spotlight on local establishments.
This list is not limited to romantic dates! Take yourself, your friends, your family, your cat! The possibilities are endless.
Rage Room

Unfortunately, the Quad Cities sole rage room has closed down since last Valentine’s Day. My top recommendation is now futile. Don’t let this stop you from creating a rage room of your own, though— buy plates from Dollar General and throw them in your garage! Or anywhere that is in a controlled environment and not disturbing the public . . . Make sure to clean up after yourself too.

2902 East Kimberly Road Suite A
Davenport,IA 52807
Although there is no longer a Quad Cities rage room I can recommend, axe throwing is still in the picture! Channel out all that rage in you by chucking a weapon at a board!
Big River Bowling at 2902 East Kimberly Road has axe throwing hours every day of the week, making it the perfectly flexible date idea.

325 East 2nd Street
The Last Picture House is a true gem in the Quad Cities; the independent cinema is a testament to the owners passion for film and their dedication to crafting an immersive film experience. From surround sound and comfortable seating in their indoor theaters and the option to watch a movie beneath the stars at their rooftop screen, it’s the perfect evening for any film fanatic.
This weekend, they’re showing Roman Holiday in honor of Valentine’s Day, and on Sunday, they are continuing their David Lynch tribute with a special showing of Blue Velvet.
2255 Middle Road, Bettendorf

If you’re looking for a fun and exciting date, The Landing Ice Rink in Bettendorf is a fantastic choice. At 11,000 square feet, it’s nearly 40% bigger than the city’s last rink and offers an upgraded experience with climate-controlled restrooms, concessions, and cozy warming areas. Picture this: you and your date are skating hand in hand (whether that’s because it’s romantic or you’re both slipping, trying not to fall — you can relax in the warming areas sipping hot cocoa). It’s a charming way to embrace this snowy weather and create lasting memories!
Disturb the Public
Are you single on Valentine’s Day? Perfect. Disturb the public . . . In a healthy way. What I mean is, grab a table at a prime-date restaurant. Places like Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, etc. Not too fancy that it’d be disrespectful, but more likely to spot a few high schoolers on dates. This wooden table is your stage; put on a Tony-worthy performance because those dancers at Texas Roadhouse aren’t the only show your neighbors are getting tonight. Start an in-depth, fake argument with things so appalling and attention-grabbing that the people around you can’t help but listen in. Bonus points if somebody dramatically storms out of the establishment.
Hopefully this list has inspired all of you Valentine's Day celebrators to expand your horizons and go on more interesting dates! (If you choose the last option, please email me the details and location; I'd love to be an audience member.)
