How do you feel about the current injustices that you see every day in the world? From genocide to discriminatory laws and the looming threat of climate change, there are quite a few things that seem overwhelming. But, as high school students, we often feel a sense of loss. Sure, we notice these injustices happening, but what can we truly do about them?
How can we, as young individuals, make a meaningful impact on such vast and complex issues?
This is where the Iowa Youth Activists club comes into the picture.
Iowa Youth Activists (IYA) is more than just a club; it’s a movement, a platform for change, and a beacon of hope for those who wish to see a better world. It’s a space where high school students can come together to use their voices for the greater good, to advocate for the changes they wish to see in the world, and to stand up against injustice in all its forms. IYA is a student-run organization, under the guidance of Ms. Whan, that holds the goal of empowering young people to take action and create positive change in their community and beyond.
The first meeting of Iowa Youth Activists will be held on Thursday, March 7, during P6 in Ms. Whan’s classroom. This will be an opportunity for general introductions, discussions of the club’s goals, and brainstorming sessions for upcoming initiatives. Whether you’re passionate about social justice, environmental sustainability, or human rights, there’s a place for you in IYA. Join us and learn how to use your voice to create change!
This meeting has now been moved to Friday during P6 in Ms. Whan's room! :)
