Underrated Actors

Writer's picture: Brieanna BrownBrieanna Brown

It's not a secret that 2024 wasn’t the greatest year for movies beyond horror movies made to get younger teens into the genre–but 2025 has a long anticipated list of movies coming on for every genre. Plenty of sequels and live actions of some of our favorite childhood movies brings us back to the fact that many movie lovers are guilty of watching the same types of movies they always do, and even more guilty of only watching movies with the best or their favorite actors. We all like to say that we have a wide variety of genres we enjoy and still click on every movie with Timothee Chalamet playing the main character. As skilled as Timothee is, there are many actors that are exceptional at acting but never seem to get the credit they deserve as they struggle to get the roles and opportunities to put them out there. The four on my list are well known now to specific audiences and many of their best films go unseen because of low ratings.

Ezra Miller

While Ezra has been acting for a long time he Is one of the better actors I can think of beyond the obvious. He is credited in many movies and shows including the newest version of Flash. He isn´t actually rated very high as an actor; early in his career he was a part of a few controversial movies by the titles We Need To Talk About Kevin and Afterschool. None of his movies have ever been rated five stars and many of his choices and actions since then are all classified as controversial and therefore the reason he is not credited for the success of many movies, and is often listed as a person many directors would rather not work with.

I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, productive stage in my life. -- Ezra Miller

James Bingham

James Bingham is credited for 6 films, only one being considered a success. At just fourteen, Australian actor James Bingham was casted for his role Drew Murphy in the Apple Tv series Swagger. The show would run for two seasons and be one many young basketball fans connected with. Most are still hoping for a third season. His 5 films since then have been rated low and haven’t picked up such a strong audience, being the reason he hasn’t had very many opportunities to showcase his acting skills.

Jason Rivera-Torres

Jason is credited for only one title, the Apple tv series Swagger. While he is more known for being an influencer and Basketball Player for the University of San Francisco Men's Program, many fans still connect him to the show. Starting as young as many of the other actors on the show, Jason's character, Nick, was a major supporting character for the main character. We got to see Nick go through many different things and Jason was more than exceptional with his acting skills and expressing the emotional roller coaster his character would go through. For now, he's focusing on basketball, but many fans are hoping to see his face on the screen at least a few more times

Charlie Gillespie

Charlie is most known for his character Luke in the Netflix series Julie and the phantoms and most recently his character in the movie Totally Killer. While he is credited in 22 films, in total the majority have failed in the box office and have gone unnoticed and rated poorly due to production quality. It is a widely accepted opinion that when given the right role, Charlie is an exceptional actor.

Take all your failures and turn them into lessons -- Charlie Gillespie
