It's the second semester, meaning lots of ACT/SAT studying, AP preparation, and second semester finals, all while balancing various extracurriculars. For a period filled with studying, make the most out of it! .

Instead of staying at the same study spot, branch out and explore new study spots in the Quad Cities! You might come across some hidden gems, like the establishments I've included in this list

Cafe & Bookstore

1524 N Harrison St, Davenport, IA 52803

The smell of freshly ground coffee beans, the soft chatter of fellow patrons, warm lighting, free Wi-Fi, and tables tucked into bookshelf-lined alcoves all make for an incredibly cozy environment. With plentiful caffeine options and the ability to treat yourself to a book after a successful study session, the Brewed Book is a perfect study spot. Also, if you’re looking for an establishment that offers more than just a study space, the Brewed Book can serve as that as well—with Thursday, Friday, and Sunday game nights open to the public.

“But cozy, comforting, themed cafes? These are what we stay alive for!”

1525 3rd Avenue A, Moline, IL 61265

If the reference to a fantastic movie wasn’t enough, the warm lighting and wooden furniture make a warm, comforting ambience in this local cafe. Even better, customers say that Dead Poet’s Espresso has some of the best espresso in the Quad Cities. My brother, who is an absolute coffee nerd, also says that their chai is fantastic. So, check out Dead Poet’s Espresso for your next weekend study session, and see if you agree with those enthusiastic customers!

A Cozy Bookstore

1801 5th Ave., Moline, IL 61265

If you're looking for a calm, plant-filled environment to get some studying done, then The Atlas Collective is the place for you. Similar to the Brewed Book, this store provides both books and coffee—so you can give your brain the energy boost it craves. The Atlas Collective is a self-proclaimed "third space," encouraging patrons to stick around for a while, whether to study, relax, or chat with a friend.

For Those In Need Of Materia Medica

2571 53rd Ave., Bettendorf, IA 52722

Coffee Apothecary’s uniqueness doesn’t halt at its esoteric coffee names; the flavors in each drink are incredibly unique and unlike anything in the area. Their ‘Love Menu'—courtesy of Valentine’s Day—includes gems like 'EKG', a caramelized fig, apple spice, and white mocha latte. ‘Beating Heart Cadaver’ includes regular flavors like sea salt caramel toffee and mocha, but spices things up by adding charcoal and a topping of pink luster dust.

So, stop at Coffee Apothecary! Not only do they have unique flavors, but they have diverse seating options and free Wi-Fi—all that you need for a study session!

The Study Spot for Night Owls

2108 3rd Ave., Rock Island, Il 61201

Finding a study spot that is open after 5 pm is a struggle—the majority of the establishments on this list are those early closers. Luckily for us Quad City locals, Rozz-Tox is a prime late-night study spot, staying open until 12 am Wednesday-Saturday. Similar to other places on this list, Rozz-Tox goes further than just being a convenient study spot; it’s a creative, unique local establishment that serves as a restaurant, cafe, performance venue, cinema, and more!

Even if you don't feel inclined to trek across the river for a study session, I still urge you to check out Rozz-Tox purely for how cool it is.

With the bustle of school and other responsibilities high schoolers face, we often forget to explore the environment around us. The Quad Cities has so many gems that it would be a disservice to yourself if you didn't go out and explore them! Most of us won't be in the Quad Cities forever, so it's important to appreciate the city around us before we move away.
