Last Friday night kicked off this week in Lancer sports, as the girl’s and boy’s basketball teams faced off against Assumption. The girl’s were at Assumption as they looked to avenge an early season loss against the Knights. The Lady Lancers held on to 5 point lead going into halftime, but after an impressive 3rd quarter for the Knights, the Lancers trailed by 5 going into the final quarter of play. Despite their best efforts in the closing stretch the Lady Lancers fell to the Knights 47-45. Ava Schubert had a huge night for the Knights racking up 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

The boys took on the Knights in the Pit on Friday for an exciting rematch of the two squads. The Lancers clung on to the thinnest of margins going into halftime as they led by just 2 points. The Knights bounced back and strung off some huge scoring runs to help them secure and maintain their late lead. In the end, the Knights held off the Lancers with a final score of 58-50. Ivan Prug had a double-double in the winning effort picking up 14 points and 10 rebounds. Drew Kilburg lead the scoring efforts for the Lancers with 15 points.

On Tuesday both the girls' and boys' squads were back in action as they traveled to Central Dewitt for an important double-header. The girls began the night with a very important rematch. The Lady Lancers bettered the Sabers earlier in the year in a thrilling victory. The winner of Tuesday’s matchup would help determine seedings for the playoff brackets. The Lady Lancers did not have much going offensively early on as they trailed 26-3 after the first quarter. The Lancers really couldn’t dig themselves out of that early rut and fell to the Sabers 73-36. The Sabers were lead by a stellar performance from Kylee Devore as she had 9 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 blocks in their winning effort.

The boys' game followed to cap of the evening of basketball and it was much of a similar tale to the girls' game. The Lancers struggled to get their offense going and get shots to fall and trailed by 19 points at halftime. The Lancers could not overcome that deficit and suffered another loss 51-33. The Sabers were led by Matthew Watters who finished with 16 points and 4 rebounds. Kyler Gerardy led the Lancers in the loss with 7 points. Both teams are back in action this Friday night as the girls take on Muscatine in the Pit, and the boys travel to Muscatine.

The boys' wrestling squad competed on Wednesday in Bettendorf with an opportunity to go state in duals as a team. Their first dual of the night saw them cruise to a team victory 61-9. That win secured the team a dual against a stellar Bettendorf squad with a trip to state on the line. As the early matches got underway it looked to be a tight dual, but the later matches would show the Bulldogs' strengths in their lineup and secured a win and a trip to state 46-21. The only pin for the Lancers came from David Borchers. The other wins from the Lancers came from Dylan Marti, Seth Madden, Trace Gephart, and a win by forfeit awarded to Peyton Westlin. The Lancer wrestlers will look on to districts where each individual will look to punch their own ticket to state.
