Spring break is quickly approaching, meaning that all of our students are going to have a lot more free time soon. There are plenty of things students can do, and this week-long break allows us to relax. With all this time comes many choices, so here are some of the best things to do over your spring break.
Spring break gives you the much-needed chance to do anything you want with your time — the only hard part is finding the best way to spend it.

Travel
One of the most popular things to do over spring break is to travel, and why wouldn't it be? Taking the chance to travel somewhere new and different for a while is a great way to decompress and relax while away from school, and although Iowa’s weather is starting to warm up a little, a trip to somewhere warmer might be pretty nice for some. Getting to spend time with friends or family for a while can be a lot of fun, and going to fun places with these people can be worth it. There are so many places around the world that are so unique, and the chance to experience them shouldn’t be missed.Â
However, not everyone wants to go on a long, far-away trip, and that’s perfectly fine—there are still plenty of ways to have a great trip to places close by too! For example, taking a day trip to somewhere within driving distance can be fun, and I’ve found it to be a great way to spend some time with friends without the exhaustion and significantly higher cost that longer trips bring. Whether you go somewhere half an hour away from your house or a couple hundred miles away, traveling is a sure way to have a great break.

Relax at Home
While travel can be a great way to stay busy while still having some fun, sometimes it’s nice to just relax at home and take a break from how busy high school can be. After all, there’s always so much fun stuff to do and never enough time to do it all. However, on break, you’ll have plenty of time to do whatever you want. There are plenty of things you can do for yourself to decompress and rest before school starts up again. Catching up on your favorite Netflix series or picking up a good book can be a great way to pass some time. If you want to play video games all day, go for it! Additionally, it definitely won’t hurt to get to sleep in a little, finally. Spring break gives you the chance to relax at home doing anything you’ve been dying to be able to do.Â
Spend Time With Friends
One of my favorite things to do over break is to spend time with friends. School can get so busy, and sometimes it can be hard to find the time to hang out with your friends. Taking the time to hang out with your best friends or with friends you haven’t seen for a while is important, which is why spending time with them is a great thing to do over break. It’s always fun to hang out with your favorite people, and if you’re missing your friends over break, plan something with them! Spending time with your friends in the Quad Cities can be a lot of fun, and you’ll never get bored if you’re with a great group.Â

Get Things Done
Now, I know this might sound boring, but honestly, a great thing to do over break is to get work done. I know for many students, schoolwork is the last thing they want to think about, but if you have some things you need to do, why not spend a little bit of time over break getting them out of the way before going back to school? High schoolers can have a lot to do, and sometimes everything can pile up all at once, making it incredibly hard to get anything done. Taking time over break to finish an assignment or work ahead on a project can help you in the long run.
However, you don’t need to spend all your time just focused on schoolwork. Some other options include doing chores around the house or picking up a few extra shifts if you have a job. Additionally, if you’re a senior planning on going to college, filling out scholarships over break won’t take too much of your time and can get you free money.Â
Final Thoughts
Spring break gives you the much-needed chance to do anything you want with your time—the only hard part is finding the best way to spend it. Everyone has their favorite ways to spend their time, and not everyone needs to like all of these options. Some people want to spend their break doing as much as possible, while others would rather relax and take a bit of a breather. With the chance to spend your break doing anything you want, what would you choose to do?
