The Final Senior Spotlight: Writers Edition

Updated: May 21

For all of the senior spotlights that have been produced this year, Gretchen and I have been behind it all. We have come up with the questions and sent out Google forms so people could have the chance to be on it. With that being said, this will be the final senior spotlight of the 2023-24 school year. I just want to say thank you to everyone who participated in it this year. This segment would not be here without you, so once again thank you. And now, on to the last senior spotlight, featuring your two senior spotlight writers.

Gretchen Hoft

What are you doing after high school?

I will be attending Concordia University (Nebraska) to major in elementary education!

What was your favorite year of high school?

Senior year for sure

If you could be born into any other year, which would you choose?

I’ve thought very long and hard about this, and if I had to pick, it would be anywhere between 1995 and 2000.

If you had to choose, strawberries or apples?

Love strawberries, but apples win every time.

Do you have any fun plans for the summer?

Yes! I’m going to be a camp counselor at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca in Solon!

If you could give your past self some advice, what would you say?

For heaven's sakes, Gretchen, stop being such a show-off. Have some humility.

What’s your favorite class?

Right now, it’s journalism!

Do you eat mac and cheese with a fork or spoon?

Fork is the only correct answer

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

Probably playing with my brother or having Nerf gun wars with all the neighborhood kids in the summers.

Finish this sentence: I could not live without…

I could not live without music :)

What are you doing after high school?

I am going to be attending the University of Iowa to major in English and creative writing as well as publishing.

What was your favorite year of high school?

Senior year for sure! There are just so many good memories this year.

If you could be born into any other year, which would you choose?

Between the 1980’s and the 1990’s because their fashion was amazing and I love the music.

If you had to choose, strawberries or apples?

Apples for sure but honeycrisp apples to be more specific.

Do you have any fun plans for the summer?

I plan on working to save up money for college while also still having time to hangout and have fun with my friends.

If you could give your past self some advice, what would you say?

Stop caring what people think about you, it doesn’t matter. Be yourself and don’t let others put a damper on your mood or how you act.

What’s your favorite class?

Probably Lit because of all the books we get to read and the movies we get to watch. Also a lot of my friends are in my class so that also makes it really fun and enjoyable.

Do you eat mac and cheese with a fork or spoon?

I agree with Gretchen, fork is the only right answer.

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

All of the times my mom would babysit my cousins, my sister, and I while my aunt was at work. We would always play this game during lunch where we would go around saying things that made us unique. My go to response was always “I’m unique because I am the only one with green eyes.” But my cousin Eli would always counteract that by saying “I’m unique because I am the only boy.”

Finish this sentence: I could not live without…

Again just like Gretchen, Music! But I also couldn't live without my phone and dance.
