Going through the list, it’s hard to ignore the amount of sequels. But why? In the film industry, continued stories are the “safer” option. Since the primary material already exists, it is easier to keep movies pumping out, without having to reinvent the wheel. And even if the film performs poorly, they have saved time and money. One of the biggest issues with that, though, is the fact that most originals are supposed to be stand-alone films. By adding an unnecessary sequel, it is difficult to surpass the original and leaves viewers unhappy.
If you are tuned into the world of film, you would know that 2024 wasn’t the best year for movies. Though last year’s most anticipated movies had us pretty hopeful, there weren’t many successes. Hopefully, this year will be a different story.
