Spring Into Stardew Valley!

Updated: Apr 23

It's the time of year when the scent of honeysuckle drifts through the air, flowers are in bloom, and baby birds begin their chorus of chirps once again. During this time of year, many are looking for ways to celebrate the beginning of spring. A wonderful way to engage in the spirit of spring is through the video game Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley is a farm-life sim video game developed by “ConcernedApe” back in 2016. Since the game’s initial release, people across the globe have adored this homely game. From the game’s nostalgic pixel graphics, the soothing music, and the engaging storyline, there is plenty to love about Stardew Valley. As of February 2024, Stardew Valley has sold over 30 million copies across all platforms.

I love being able to chill and create my own story through the farm and getting to know all of the villagers through their heart events. ---- Ray Logsdon, sophomore at North Scott, and Stardew fanatic

When the player starts Stardew Valley, they are put through a cutscene that presents the backstory of the protagonist, the playable character in the game. The farmer was working an office job at the local Joja Corporation, slowly wasting away due to their lack of passion. Until they rediscover a letter from their grandpa describing a farm that he had left behind for the player.

The player is then entered into the world on the first day of spring, and the farmer slowly makes their way throughout the small town of Stardew Valley. The farmer slowly introduces themselves to the diverse set of villagers in the town, even to the point of unlocking special heart events if you interact with them enough. Not only that, but the farmer navigates growing new crops, adopting farm animals, decorating their farm, going on quests, battling corrupt large corporations, and battling monsters in the mines.

It is the best time to start playing Stardew Valley because of the recent 1.6 update, added on March 19th. This update has added new animals, farms, events, and even more things to discover. Consider playing Stardew Valley as the perfect way to unwind after a chaotic day.
