Spring Activities that Are Actually Worth Your Time

Writer's picture: Olive KhouryOlive Khoury

Warmer weather and spring are approaching closer than you think. For those of you who are looking for new things to try locally, stay fairly budget friendly, and actually enjoy yourself, here are some of my favorite spring activities.

The Groundhog might have said otherwise, but spring is near.

Pickleball

Pickleball has grown to become a popular pastime for people of all ages. It is sort of a mix between tennis and ping pong, and it is pretty easy to pick up on your own. The rules are accessible online, and veteran players are eager to help with any questions if you see them at the courts. Eldridge has well-kept courts located at Sheridan Meadows as well as pickleball lines painted on the North Scott tennis courts.

Hit the Trails

Mississippi River Trail
Mississippi River Trail

The Quad Cities have various beautiful parks with trails and paths for hiking, biking, and "hot-girl walks". Even here in Eldridge, we have grown our bike paths so much further these past few years, and have a trail added to the side of the bike headed north for those who seek a little more adventure. Scott County Park is a great option for more strenuous trails, but the views are amazing. Scott County Park offers lots of wildlife, lakes, and hills. If you’re up for a drive, the Mississippi River Trail in downtown Davenport provides a lovely view of the river and has a paved path. The best thing about this, is it is completely free.

College Visits

College visits are essential to a lot of students when it comes to figuring out their plans for post secondary education, and spring is an ideal time to take visits. The weather is ideal for college visits, not too hot and not too cold, but be prepared for the wind. Not to mention, there are a few Mondays off from school in the spring that students can utilize for visits, so you don’t miss school. It is best to get them done sooner than later, so knock them out in these next couple months.

Golfing

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or have never touched a club in your life, an afternoon of golf can be quite fun. Many local courses have driving ranges if you are inexperienced and just want to hit a bucket of balls. Our new Iron Tee, located by TBK Bank Sports Complex, is a state-of-the-art driving range. The Quad Cities also has a lot of 9 to 18 hole golf courses with a variety of difficulties.

Visit the Farmer’s Market

The Quad Cities has a lovely farmers market in Downtown Davenport. It is filled with unique and delicious food, as well as fresh produce, live music, and lots of crafty art. While they are still operating on their winter hours, which limits them to only weekends, starting in May, they will go back to their summer hours.
