NS Speech Team Sweeps At District Competition

Picture this: 57 students all arriving at the school at 6:15 am, bags and energy drinks in hand, whilst the cops pull up asking why everyone is at the school so early on a Saturday morning. Why? Because it is a great day for speech in Iowa!

This past Saturday North Scott’s speech team competed at Large Group Districts in Camanche, Iowa. They brought fifteen different groups in a range of different events (see list of competing groups). The Timekeeper by Mitch Albom - Choral Reading

This piece about the meaning of time discusses things like illness, suicide, and being grateful for life. It utilizes a variety of characters as well as performing in unison to emphasize the hard hitting moments. The story follows a girl, Sarah, who wants time to stop and Father Time, Dor, who uses his past hardships to stop time and prevent her from taking her life.

How To Get Away With a Murder Mystery - Reader’s Theatre

This high-energy and comedic piece follows five suspects as they travel through multiple different absurd murders where each of them are the suspects. From SeaWorld to Cirque Du Soleil these suspects meet even more absurd detectives as each of them try to get away with a murder mystery.

The Wolves - One Act Play

This play surrounds nine teenage girls on an indoor soccer team as they warm up before games. They discuss typical teenage concerns, school drama, and global issues. They navigate friendship and rivalry and in the end come together over the tragic loss of one of their teammates.

After a long day of performing in classrooms and supporting teammates, they waited anxiously for the last score to come out. The gym was emptying, everything was packed up, and all that was left was one sheet of paper to be posted. The volunteer walked into the gym with a paper in hand and BOOM! Every single group that North Scott brought achieved a 1 rating and is moving on to the state level! The best way to end a day and show all the hard work that had been put into these pieces.
