So I really like Marvel, as most people do. I also fully acknowledge that some of their newer shows and movies have been hot trash. No shade to anyone who liked She-Hulk, but like…c’mon now. Because of this, I have been hesitant to watch any of the new shows. Moon Knight has been out for ages now, and I simply refused to acknowledge its existence because Marvel peaked at Endgame.
I’ll admit it, TikTok influenced me (as it does most people). Without seeing some clips of the show on TikTok, I probably would have never watched it. Imagine my surprise then when it turned out to be one of the best shows I have ever seen! To give some context, my favorite show ever is Umbrella Academy. Both Moon Knight and Umbrella Academy lean heavily on a fire soundtrack, and I appreciate this aspect as I am an avid music enthusiast. (Here’s a pic of one of my playlists for proof).
Moon Knight also does this fun little thing where you don’t fully have a grasp on the full story until the later episodes. The first episode introduces you to the main character, Steven Grant. Steven often wakes up in strange places with no recollection of how he got there and goes to great lengths to ensure he won’t fall asleep to try and prevent this. The story follows him as he tries to grasp what is happening to him and deal with what happens as a result of these blackouts.
Unlike other Marvel movies and shows, Moon Knight focuses on Egyptian Gods and Goddesses which is really cool. It is different than the usual, and it creates a whole different atmosphere than in shows past. For those of you who enjoyed or watched Loki, I would say that it was comparable in vibes to that one.
Don’t just take my word for it though, I interviewed Yorton Hagedorn, a fellow watcher, for another opinion, and he had a warning for the timid:
“Moon Knight can be scary at times. I wouldn’t recommend it for the easily scared.” -- Yorton Hagedorn
Now I know that there are those out there who may not really like superhero movies. I know one of my best friends is a good example of this; I made her watch a couple of episodes of Moon Knight anyway. She wasn’t the biggest fan, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be! I urge all of you to give it a try. It doesn’t have to be super high up on the priority list, but if you get bored one day and have Disney plus, why not?
