When asked in a survey about the best ways to relax and wind down after a stressful day, over half of the respondents at 55% all said they watch movies and Tv shows to relax. In the U.S alone 52.5% of the population watch netflix and that's 179.4 Million people, As wonderful as films can be we often don't think about the people and directors behind the movies or the true stories they may or may not be dramatizing in a non realistic way, exploiting stories that aren't theirs for money and viewers. While The directors making these films are performing an art that we all indulge in every once in a while its a different story when the films made are based on true events, in these circumstances it's always best for the families to be involved, notified and preferably had given their permission which in many cases is not common.

Dahmer -- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

After its release in 2022 The first part of Ryan Murphy's eventual two part series hit number one on netflix in its first few weeks on the streaming site. Monster is the third take on the story in the past decade starting with the 2002 big screen film, Dahmer starring Jeremy Renner. The 2017 film My friend dahmer starring Ross lynch, And Most recently Monster starring Evan Peters in yet another controversial role. While it is the third and most enjoyable take on the story it is also the one that has experienced The most distaste from the public. Not long after its release the series came under fire with being tagged as  ¨Lgbtq content¨ Many people felt that it was a bad decision considering at the time dahmer's crimes were connected with his sexuality and his choice of victims putting his actions on the whole community ending with the tag being quickly replaced by netflix. After the release and the show getting as big as it was at the time many people including the families of victims did not like how focused the show was on the killer and not his victims. Many of the families were not even contacted about the making of the show and even spoke about being Re Traumatized by a romanticized version of a story that wasn´t Murphyś to tell.

I was never contacted about the show. I feel like Netflix should’ve asked if we mind or how we felt about making it. They didn’t ask me anything. They just did it. But I’m not money hungry, and that’s what this show is about, Netflix trying to get paid. –- Isbell Lindsey

Monsters -- The Lyle and Erik Menendez story

The 2024 Release Put Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez story at number one on netflix right after Ryan Murphy's first part of the series. Many viewers agree that the second part to the Monsters series was better in their eyes which may have been because of the bigger budget, the better take on the 80s which was a sharp contrast to Netflix show Stranger things but it's widely thought the world's favorite part of the show was upcoming actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez. While Nicholas is an exceptional actor many didn´t love that he overshadowed the story and once again like Evan Peters in Part one of the Monster series, Nicholas romanticized The killer. But some of the biggest problems with the series was once again the directors strange singling in on lgbtq content and the way that he portrayed Erik who during the real life trial was almost put on trial for possibly being gay which he has then since denied. Another thing hard to ignore when sitting down to watch the show is that Erik and Lyle Now aged 53 and 56 are still in jail for their crime many are still questioning to this day and both agree the show is obviously dramatized and nothing but inaccurate slander of a story filled with tragic abuse in the walls of a family home ending with death.

I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayal of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show, I can only believe they were done on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent. -- Erik And Lyle Mendez

Alive

The 1993 Film alive is a film based completely off of the real life event of the Uruguay rugby team plane crash where a whole rugby team would end up stranded in the Andes mountains. While it's not the only reference to plane crashes and stuff like this in films it is one that is based off of a real life event where a group of people went through horrible things like frostbite, starvation, death and the moral question of possible cannibalism just so they could survive the crash and eventually make it out. This being based on people's real life stories and such a terrible thing many people believe that it should have not been made into a film.

Pistol FX

Pistol Fx was a 2022 release straight to disney plus and it follows the young members of the 70s punk band The sex pistols and the show immediately brought up issues for being a disney plus show and turning the story into something it wasn’t and making it almost a fantasy. The show follows the ups and downs of the band and mostly the downs, In the show Louis Partridge portrays the bands late bassist Sid vicious and we see him struggling with drug abuse and the effects on him and the band. Many did not like how the actor romanticized the real Sid and his relationship with the late Nancy Spungen who would go on to be a suspected victim of Sid while he was High on Heroin. Not long after the show was released onto streaming websites surviving members of the band have been in legal battles over the show, johnny rotten who is still affected by the loss of his friend still believes the show should have never been made and their music should definitely not have been included while some of the other members disagree.

Putting words in my  mouth and rewriting history. A middle class fantasy. Disney has stolen the past and created a fairytale, which bears little resemblance to the truth. It would be funny if it wasn't tragic. -- Johnny Rotten

White Boy Rick

White Boy Rick is a 2018 film that portrays the real life juvenile injustice of Richard Wershe Jr, Better known now as White Boy Rick. When Wershe was 14  he became the youngest FBI informant known at that time, Wershe would work for the Fbi for two years and they would get twenty convictions from his informance. But when the FBI ceased to employ him as an informant he would turn his pretend life into a real life and that same year at the age of 17 he was sentenced to over 30 years for a non violent drug crime which is more than the bare minimum of a life sentence. The nickname White Boy Rick was not his chosen name just the media's name for him after his arrest when it became suspected that he only got such a large sentence because one of the 20 convictions were because of him having provided the FBI with information leading to the arrest of family members and associates of former Detroit Mayor Coleman A Young, as well as the allegation about Young's political ally Hill. In 2016, notorious former Detroit-based hitman Nate "Boone" Craft alleged Hill had once tried to hire him to commit the murder of Wershe. The family of Wershe have said that the movie could not have been more inaccurate of their portray of Wershe at that time and they agree with what many Media outlets say when it comes to the Juvenile Injustice of Wershe and the fact that the story should not have been made into film while the Man was still suffering from an excessive sentence.

We were portrayed in the film as low-class dirt poor scuzz bags, I don't know what other words to use, not the way it was -- Dawn Scott
