Cheaters In The Bronx

Guys, hitting is not about muscle, its simple physics -- George Costanza (Jason Alexander/Sienfled)

The Yankees are cheating already (such a surprise). Anybody else find it weird that they scored over 30 runs in a 3-game series to start the year versus the Brewers?

The MLB season is underway, and there is already controversy. The New York Yankees are being called cheaters after making a change to their bats.

The Yankees' left fielder, Cody Bellinger, made a bat change in spring training because he noticed that he was hitting the ball too far down the barrel of the bat. So Cody Bellinger modified his bat. He moved the barrel down, so instead of the barrel being at the top of the bat, he moved it down 4-5 inches, so when he would hit the ball in the spot he tends to hit at, the barrel was there and it would make great contact.

Okay, that was hard to explain, so here is a visual on the changes Cody Bellinger made.

Other players noticed Cody’s success with the new bat, so they decided to join in on the action. Players like Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe changed their bats and have been hitting way better to start this season.

Some speculate that this is cheating. However, the Yankees are not cheating because Rule 3.02 states, “bats cannot be more than 2.61 inches in diameter and 42 inches in length.” So the bats are that the Yankees are using are completely illegal.

The media is raged, however, unless you are a Yankees fan. Social media is calling these new bats “torpedo bats" because they have a funky shape and almost look corked. These new bats remind me of the image below of the giant miniature plastic bat that was my childhood.
