Chat With A Club: Service Club

Updated: Nov 25, 2022

Are you looking to get a job someday in the future?

If so, volunteering might help you with that search!

Service Club, a club dedicated to helping our community, helps you up your service hours! Many studies show that community service helps build character and helps you obtain jobs!

Who doesn't like Target runs with friends for a good cause!?!

To convince you to join, I have interviewed the leader of Service Club: Mrs. Henningsen

What does Service Club do?

Mrs. Henningsen: "Service Club is a student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. The core values are character building, caring, and serving others to make a difference. Leading by example through acts of service. Students volunteer within the school or community (QC area too). Club has Senior President(s) and Junior President(s)

[Service Club does a lot! From Book Sales to Trunk to Treat Events, there are many events for students to receive service hours and make friends from!]... We usually end the school year with over 100 hours of service!!"

What opportunities are within Service Club?

Mrs. Henningsen: "We meet once a week (Tuesdays) to Volunteer; serve in-school events & serve in-community events, make friends, lead events, and build service hours for post-HS."

How could Service Club help me as a person?

Mrs. Henningsen: "make friends, serve outside yourself, get involved in school & community events, have a teacher to connect with, build leadership, bring topics you are passionate about to the club and we find ways to provide or serve."

Do you have any other information that you would like to tell everyone?

Mrs. Henningsen: "The NSHS Service club team has created the ONLY support program for kids transitioning into foster care, in all of Scott County. It's called Cozy Cases. Every school year we provide 10-20 backpacks full of hygiene and comfort items; those are then given to kids and teens transitioning into 'out of home placement' in Scott County. We also started recycling [at the stadium] at the football games & track meets; we call that Green Games. JOIN it's FUN!"
