Writer's picture: Brieanna BrownBrieanna Brown

For as long as many can remember North Scott hasn’t just been known for academics whether its Football, Basketball, Golf or Bowling our athletics have always been exceptional. In the past we’ve proven our skills time and time again. Starting back in 2015 when the basketball team made it to state and won, soon to be followed up with another win at state again three years in a row.  Our school has produced some of the highest numbers of divisional athletes. And upon talking with the coaches and the teams this year there is no doubt we’ll get quite a few out of the 2027 and 2028 classes.

Season Rewind

Coming off the graduation of 2024 seniors Kavon Phillips and Jamarion Readus the boys team has shown that it's stronger than ever through many ups and downs, wins and losses. Starting off the season with two scrimmages we got right into with a win against Geneseo. As we near the end of the season we have a total of 9 wins and 7 losses, 1 game tonight, and 4 more deciding on state. The boys season is far from over. As the season Continues for the lady lancers they have a total of 5 wins and 13 losses but with 3 more games we can only hope to end on a good note.

We have more losses than wins but at one point we were up against a team who has 2 d1 commits and still started the game winning -- Allie Moeller

The End of The Season

As we make our way through February and are nearing the end of the season this is the last few games for some of our seniors and we get closer and closer to the deciding factor on whether our team will once again make it to state and win. We have high hopes for our classmates and school so we decided to ask some of the players about the season.

Words From The Team

We caught up with Allie Moeller, Olivia Fedderson and Kamilah Eller in the hallways during 5th period on Thursday and asked them a few questions about the season. When asked about the teams performance all together they all had very similar things to say. Though the girls have gone through some adversity and struggles this season they all agree they’ve come together and gotten closer. They’ve also developed their skills on and off the court, learning and bettering themselves with each other. When asked about personal preformance Allie was happy with her playing time and the way she contributed to every game. She is hoping in her future To make the top 5 leading scorers and To make the best of the rest of this season and her last season with us next year. Olivia explained she is hoping to see more playing time in her highschool future and while Kamilah shared it had been sort of “A roller coaster mentally and physically” for her she is glad the team could spend this season growing and improving together, Were all hopeful that our teams will make it to state and with a little hard work and dedication the girls think they can too.

Although I've made some great new friendships, and made a lot of great memories. I've decided to end my basketball high school career early next year, because I would like to have the opportunity to focus on my other sports that I'm involved in, and to make sure I can also focus on my grades and getting those to be as good as possible. But I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity that my coaches and teammates gave me to be where I am today! -- Kamilah Eller
